Introduction to COBIT

“Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology” COBIT A business framework to allow for IT enterprise management and governance that was developed by Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) in 1996. The most recent version — COBIT 5 — was released in 2012. It is a general framework built for IT professionals and provides a high-level outline of good security practices that help companies understand IT benefits and risks.


COBIT is based on five principles:

1. Meeting Stakeholder Needs

2. Covering the Enterprise End-to-End

3. Applying a Single, Integrated Framework

4. Enabling a Holistic Approach

5. Separating Governance from Management

And seven enablers:

1. Principles, Policies and Frameworks

2. Processes

3. Organizational Structures

4. Culture, Ethics and Behavior

5. Information

6. Services, Infrastructure and Applications

7. People, Skills and Competencies


HISTORY OF COBIT

The history of COBIT can be draw back from 1996 and currently version of COBIT is Version 5. The below figure trace back the historical timeline of COBIT.
